Social Media Platform Name - Moozik
A) Purpose:
The purpose is to allow users to bond over the music that they listen to and find common interests. On the home page of the social media website it asks its users to search for an artist, album etc. afterward a list of different groups will come up either listening to an album or playlist. During the playing users can comment on what parts of the music they appreciate and what parts they dislike. If using the app, users can close their phone and continue listening to the music.
b) Content:
The presentation of my social media platform looks clean and simple. I have used variations of red and grey as the main colour scheme of my social media platform. I have also incorporated black as well as some hints of white. Once a user joins a group the artwork for the album or single appears with the title and artist above, and runtime underneath. Comments from other users appear beneath the album artwork and information, to view the comments, the user must scroll down. Users are able to add other users as friends and share music with each other.

Spotify is a music streaming app that allows for users to listen to music on demand. It also allows users to follow other users to view what they are listening to and to listen to playlists that the user has curated. Current Spotify users will prefer to use my social media app over Spotify as it provides all of the core features that Spotify does (e.g. Music streaming on demand, and the ability to follow other users). My social media will provide a much more social aspect to listening to music. It will allow for users to have conversation about the music they are interested in with other users. My social media will also give users the ability to share music with other users that they are friends with on the social media.
2. Reddit
Reddit is a social media website that allows its users to create forum-type pages for users to post and share things to do with their interest (e.g. r/gaming, or r/dogs). I will be focusing on r/music for this comparison. On r/music, users are able to post their opinions on a new album and/or new artist and have a conversation with other users in the comments. Users are able to share music that they enjoy and have a conversation with other users who have similar musical interests to themselves. The users on Reddit's r/music page will want to use my social media platform because it allows those users to be able to listen to the music that they enjoy, on demand, whilst retaining the social aspect that they get from using Reddit.
3. QQ Music
QQ Music is a music streaming platform and potentially the platform that is most similar to my social media platform in terms of the way that it operates. QQ Music allows its users to stream their favourite songs and albums on demand, much like Spotify. However, because of its parent company, Tencent, QQ Music is able to use the aspects of one of the parent company's subsidiaries to its advantage. QQ Music takes advantage of the social aspects of WeChat. WeChat is a social media platform created by Tencent. QQ Music lets its users share music to WeChat friends directly through the QQ Music app. QQ Music also has an official page on WeChat that users can follow and receive recommendations on music similar to that of the music that the user listens to, as well as keep the user up to date with news within the music industry. QQ Music users will want to use my social media platform as it allows users to share songs, albums, and artists with their friends all through one single platform instead of having to hop between two different apps to achieve the same thing. Due to complications with copyright laws, QQ Music is not allowed to operate in North America and Europe. Therefore, there is a potential audience for my social media platform that QQ Music currently cannot reach.

Move the circle and square down and leave some space in the middle. Can add sliding pictures at the top of the page and stuff like rankings, daily recommend, popular playlists.

Legal and Ethical:
My social media platform may face some potential legal issues. The most prominent legal issue my social media platform could face is copyright issues. Due to my social media platform requiring the use of copyrighted music, I must therefore comply with the copyright laws otherwise I could potentially be fined. The copyright law for sound recordings state that the creator of the work has full control of his/her work, this means that I must get permission and potentially pay a fee to be able to use the music. To circumvent this, I will make sure that all music that I use for the social media platform will be licensed.
There may also be ethical issues with my social media platform. One of these ethical issues may be harassment targeted towards certain users. These users may feel attacked by other users due to them calling the user slurs and frequently using offensive and explicit language. I will try and counteract this by setting up security and online harassment protection options. If users feel attacked by other users, they can report the user, block them, and/or mute them.
Privacy/Security Measures:
One security measure that I will implement into my social media platform would be the use of a password when new users are creating an account. New users will be required to create a password to secure their account so that nobody else except them can access it. The password will require at least 8 different characters and include numbers to make sure that the password is difficult to figure out. If the user was to forget his/her password then authentication through an email or mobile number will be necessary to reseting the password as to verify that it is in fact the user attempting to reset their own password.
In terms of privacy, when signing up users are required to either use their email or mobile number (they can even sign up using both if they wish). However, if this information was to be displayed on their account it could be a breach of their privacy, especially if they gain popularity on the platform. Therefore, neither their mobile number or email will be displayed for other users to view.
Some users may think that other random users viewing their listening history, playlists, groups joined, etc. could be a breach of their privacy. Therefore, I will have an option in the settings section called "private" which will mean that unless the user is friends with another user, that user cannot view the account details of the specific user.

e) Possible Revenue Streams:
Much like any other music streaming platform, my platform will earn revenue through a paid premium version of the service. Without the premium version, users are only able to join a limited number of groups and cannot directly stream music, they must listen to the music that is played in the group. With the premium version, users are allowed to join unlimited groups, directly stream music at any time, and create their own groups.
My social media platform with also earn revenue through placing advertisements on the platform. Users who do not have a premium account will have advertisements appear whilst using the service. Advertisements will play before users join a group. There will also be other still image advertisements that will appear for non-premium users throughout their experience with the service.
I will expect the premium membership to cost around £5.99 a month, this is technically cheaper than the price that services such as Apple Music and Spotify. This should therefore attract users from Spotify and other music streaming services to try my social media platform.
According to Statista, Instagram had around 150 million users in their first year, which if assuming that that statistic had risen at a stable rate, then they would have had around 12.5 million users in their first month. However, as I will not have the same marketing budget as an app such as Instagram I do not believe that this figure will be achievable. Therefore I believe that in one month I expect around 550 people to sign up for my social media service. This figure is somewhat within the range of the average amount of first month visitors for a new website. According to Apple Insider, Spotify currently has around 44% of their total users as paying subscribers. Due to my social media platform being new, I do not expect as high of a percentage of users to sign up for the premium service and therefore I expect around 20% of those 550 users to apply for a premium membership. This means that I expect to earn around £658.90 in my first month from premium members alone.
